Well long story short since September 28th I have been umemployed so I have been spending most of my time with my little monkey.
The timing of this couldn’t of been worst. My wife is on mat leave and Alberta is in its worst economic slump in over 30 years. Good thing I’m eligible for EI until Dec 2017 because it’s gonna take everything to not have to sell our house. I’m gonna have to sell my toys and all that jazz.
Life sucks sometimes but you just have to keep on trucking I guess.

Sorry to hear about the job situation, that sucks. Being a good dad is the best thing a man can do. It’s hard not to let life’s challenges get you down, but putting your energies into fatherhood as you negotiate this period is a great strategy. Good luck man, all the best.

I won’t lie its been real tough. I’m flip flopping like trump. I’ll have 2 or 3 good days then one day I’ll wake up so worried and depressed.
I honestly thought I’d be working again already and in 5 weeks and a few dozen applications I haven’t received a single phone call. NOT ONE.

Cute kid. Do your best to move forward but don’t be afraid to enjoy spending time with your family. With any luck the struggles you are going through now will become just another memory.

Little monkey time is good time.
Laid off time not so much. I just had my first work day after being laid off almost a month. My new job is barely more than minimum wage, but I can’t find a better one because I can’t afford to move because the federal government has been a piece of shit to most of its employees this year, and has shorted my pay by about $5/hr all summer, and hasn’t caught up the difference yet. This winter’s not going to be great.
Hope you have better luck finding a job. Definitely don’t move to rural MB unless you land a job here first.

Man that must suck. But im sure your monkey is happy to have you around :)
The consequences of losing your job are bad, but the feeling you get because of it are sometimes worse than the physical loss of job and income.
Just know that it’s natural for it to take 3 - 4 months, even more, to find the right job. Hang in there :)

The challenges I’m facing is that houses are super expensive here. So unless I can make atleast $23/hour($5/hr cut)I’ll be forced to sell therefor losing everything I’ve worked for in the last 10 years.

100% agree. The mental ups and downs have been the hardest part of this whole thing.
I know I’m ok financially for 5-6 months no problem, but even knowing that it does not make the worry go away.

I’m sorry, and I sympathize on the depression. Life’s worries, bullshit, and financial uncertainty do the same to me, and there’s no easy way past it but to try to keep your head on straight and try to look forward. It’s tough, man. Have you followed up on your applications? Sometimes a phone call or visit to reiterate your motivation can help, at least if they’re serious about hiring. A lot of companies waste your time though.

I feel you....
Watch the Horrible bosses movies (when the kid isnt around) and be glad you’re not them lol
Now’s a good time to call people up in your professional circle that you never talk to and tell them you’re looking to change jobs asap. No need to tell them your situation. (Guess you would probably have done that)

Damn dude that’s awful. You have to hang onto that 3 car garage! But if you have to sell cars to... keep... it... Quite the existential crisis.
I wish you all the best.

Good luck, man. Just remember, you’ve still got your family, and that’s what really matters.

I’ve been wondering where you’ve been, and now that I know, I wish the best for you and your family. While I haven’t done it myself, I’ve heard that you can at least make some decent spare income on the side by being an Uber/Lyft driver. Also, if I may ask, what industry are you focusing/looking at? I’ve had some luck pairing friends and colleagues with jobs recently.

Man, I can only wish you good luck... Maybe an opportunity to get out of Alberta and work elsewhere?

I’m really sorry to hear that. Don’t fret over the toys though, if they have to go. There’s always more of them in the future. Try and enjoy the extra time with your boy (he’s freaking adorable!), and just keep diggin’.

The mental part is the worst, uncertainty is never fun. I got laid off in April, and this has been 0 fun.

Keep your head up and enjoy your time with your little guy. In the end, if the three of you are together and healthy, that’s all that matters. Hope things turn around for you on the job front very soon. Consider taking on odd jobs here and there to make some extra cash in the meantime; if you have friends who are in the trades who can use an extra set of hands, there might be some opportunity there as well.
